I set up and take down mine by myself. I just did so last weekend to clean out and organize some gear for an upcoming trip.

Honestly, I'm still not sold on any of the changes, but as luck would have it I was able to scour the internet and find a few 2017 8.0 trailers still for sale.

My lovely wife and I were just up in Kentucky this week viewing the eclipse and I made a point to stop by a dealer there to look at a 2017 model QS to see an aluminum floor model for myself. In case anyone's in the market, Garland RV in Hopkinsville, Ky has one unsold 2017 QS 8.0 left on their lot.

Nope, I just claimed it  ;)

I was able to get one at a bit below invoice since the 2018's are now on the lot, so all around its a win for me. 8) I did have to pull the trigger a bit earlier than I would have liked, but I also spent about $2300 less than I was expecting, so still a win. I should be picking it up over Labor Day weekend. All of that said I REALLY appreciate those of you who brought the changes to my attention, had I not known and waited until next spring/summer to purchase I would have been extremely disappointed.

Then they'd have to make sure the top welds were ground flat. This way they can go wild with the welds and never even clean them up.
With that, you may be closer to the reason than you think... up until this year, the QS tent campers were essentially all made-up by hand. Judging by the changes which were made, including laminated floor and walls, my guess is that KZ is looking to trim manufacturing costs by redesigning the QS tent campers so that much of them can be produced on the same production lines as thier other products. There is nothing at all wrong with that in and of itself, but if you change the way a product is made just in order to fit on a particular production line.. do you end up with the same product? well, you be the judge.

THIS!

Personally I could GAS about their production costs, as a consumer that's not my problem. I will say that they should have been smart enough to know that they produce a niche market product, targeted at a very specific group of folks. Personally, I would have been better with a raise in price if the same quality and durability was maintained. As it stands this seems to be nothing more than cost cutting measure for them, while they will likely sell the product to consumers for the same price or more. I guess they don't realize that the only way the profit margin increases is if you continue selling the same amount of product (or more). As I stated previously I'm not in the market to purchase for approximately another 10-12 months due to other projects, but if they have not rectified these issues, then I'll either be looking at picking up a used model or something from another manufacturer all together. I am also curious how the dealer's feel about this as they obviously are going to be taking some heat and likely have some of these things sitting on their lots unsold as a result. I'm betting if they take enough of a hit LL will go back to the original specs.

I will say that due to a few other projects (Home remodel/Europe trip) I will not be in the market to purchase until next summer/fall. Hopefully by then they have these issues addressed. If not I'll likely either look elsewhere or buy used. It may be me, but the whole composite floor issue and 12v delete just smacks of nothing more than cutting production costs and thinking the consumer will just take it. One of the main appeals of the trailer was the aluminum construction, including the floor. Being that I'm in the gulf south and have kids the durability of the floor is much more important than insulation. They need to get it together and remember the very subtle balance between profit margins and customer satisfaction, especially when producing such a niche market product.

Just a quick question. Do these changes apply to the 8.0 and 8.1 trailers? Have the floors in those models been replaced with all composite, the 12v outlets done away with, and the dinette made immovable? If so I'm going to be in the market for one that is used.

I tow my QS 10 with my 2014 Subaru Forester. My unit did come with electric brakes but I didn't have them installed. It takes a few trips to get use to the tugging feeling on your car when you are towing the camper. The biggest thing I have noticed is the speed. You can't drive any faster than 65 mph and because of that when planning camping trips I have to avoid expressways and drive more on two and four lane roads. You can drive on interstates but I feel I am creating a hazard for anxious drivers behind me.

If you are hauling one with a Forester with no issues then I should be good as gold as the Outback has a higher towing capacity than the Forester. What type of terrain have you traveled on? I'm positive that I should have no problems on the flat land along the gulf coast, but I want to be sure that I will not have issues when traveling in regions with mountains or hills.

General Q & A / Towing a 10.0 w/ a Subaru Outback
May 16, 2017, 12:50:16 PM
Anyone here towing a 10.0 with an Outback? I have a 2013 Outback and the wife has a 2016. We are considering either an 8.0 or a 10.0. with a rear deck. Any issues towing the 10.0 with an Outback? Are electric brakes a necessity? How do they do hauling the trailer in moderate to extreme topography (through hills and mountainous regions)?

General Q & A / Dry Weight/Hitch Weight
May 16, 2017, 12:27:18 PM
What is the correct Dry Weight and Hitch Weight for the 8.0? On the website it lists the Hitch Weight as 185 and the Dry Weight as 1040, by contrast it lists the Hitch weight on the 10 at 135 and the Dry Weight as 1190. Is the Hitch Weight really that much more on the smaller trailer and is there really that little of a Dry Weight difference (150 LBS). The website below lists the Hitch Weight of the 8.0 as 110 and the Dry Weight as 865. Which is correct and why would the Hitch Weight on a smaller trailer be greater (and significantly greater at that) than the larger trailer?

General Q & A / Re: awning ideas...
May 16, 2017, 12:15:30 PM
Anyone have photos of the awning or awning room? The website is not very helpful and seems to have little if any photos of these campers outfitted with the available options. Perhaps a section which describes the available options along with photos of said option on each trailer would be good.

QuickSilver Tent Campers / Zamp Solar
March 27, 2017, 04:03:28 PM
Are any of you guys using the portable Zamp solar to power/recharge your trailers? If so how well does it work? Any problems? What items are you able to power and for how long. Ideally I would like to power fans, lights and possibly a small television, dvd player, or lap top and have the ability to recharge phones and other small electronics. My understanding is that the system does not support deep cycle lithium ion batteries, is this correct. I also understand that the portable Go Power solar can be used as they provide an adaptor with their system. Do any of you know if the Go Power will work to charge a lithium ion battery?
